"Teachings" of St. Mary Magdalene de’ Pazzi (4/6)

You are simply our Mother! You are simply our Mother!

With the mystery of the incarnate Word and the Church, Mary is closely associated, "she is the gate through which God descended to earth and through which we are brought to the heavenly homeland." She is the most beautiful of all creatures that have come from God's hands, and the most worthy due to her unique relationship with the incarnation of the eternal Word, she is the foremost member of the Church.

Magdalene sees in ecstasy that Mary has four golden tablets on her breasts, on which is written: "Amen, alleluia" (cf. Rev 19:4). She recognizes her relationship with the divine Persons of the Holy Trinity and the place Mary occupies in divine mysteries. Mary's greatness is seen from three perspectives:

a) Her personal holiness. "The Lord has given me such great knowledge of the elevation, dignity, and greatness of the Virgin Mary! It seemed to me that there is nothing in heaven or on earth, whether the moon, stars, sun, or angels, that could be compared to her greatness and dignity, except God himself, to whom this Virgin seemed similar in all things, except that she is a creature and He is the Creator."
Through her humility and purity, she caused "the throne of the Holy Trinity to bow down" and the eternal Wisdom took flesh from her. In communion with Jesus, she matured in virtue. She did everything led by the Holy Spirit, "who poured new gifts and graces into her at every moment."

b) Mother of God and Co-Redemptrix. In her integrity, "Mary, by grace, bore Him whom the Father has begotten and begets from eternity by nature." She was united with her Son in the entire work of salvation, especially by accompanying Him in His suffering to death. Mary, having a love that can only be measured by "the measure of the love of the Word," deeply experienced every moment of His passion. She suffered in two ways: as a mother, she saw her Son suffer and die, but she also participated in His suffering out of love for humanity. Mary was united with her Son not only in His suffering but also in His glory. She was raised and taken into heaven, standing at His right hand. There, she intercedes for us. In ecstasy, Magdalene sees her and says:
"How pure and beautiful you are, Mary! With your gaze, you inspire the Word, rejoice the angels, encourage sinners, and uplift pilgrims. With your gaze, you make the Son of the Most High become the lowest and most despised of all creatures... In the beauty of your eyes, the whole heaven is pleased, to you the throne of the Holy Trinity bends."

c) Mother of grace and Mother of the Church. "Do you see what the angel told her? What does it mean that she became the Mother of God? It means nothing other than that she participates in God and shares with Him, that she cooperates with God when granting us graces. You, delight of heaven, our refuge, strength of the weak! You are simply our Mother."
Magdalene calls Mary: "Mother," "Queen of love," "our Mother," "Mother full of grace and Mother of sinners," "Mediatrix of that new creation which the Word carried out"...
