"Teachings" of St. Mary Magdalene de' Pazzi (3/6)

From this side, drink for all your limbs...Bride Church

The mystery of the Word of God, which is conceived in the womb of the Most Holy Trinity and has revealed itself in the incarnation, continues in the church. "The Bride Church is conceived and nourished from your most holy side and from this side receives a drink for all your limbs." It is formed "from the blood and water" of the crucified Christ. It has come forth from "the noblest part of his body, from the breast, where the heart is placed, in which is life." The church is the new "creation of the Word," "new body," "Body of Christ."

Mary Magdalene describes the church in various images: a boat with supplies of food, Peter's ship, Noah's ark driven by the Holy Spirit, a flock gathered by Christ, a building, a garden, a vineyard. But above all, it is the body of Christ, Christ's bride. It is a great sea, in which many creatures swarm.

For Magdalene, every soul is a church and must feel the mystery of the church within itself. It experiences the loving care of God and all the mysteries of Christ. From the holy humanity of the incarnate Word flows all salvific grace. We receive it through his teaching, which is the true wisdom of life, and through the sacraments. The sacraments are the fruits of the garden of the church, the grapes of the vineyard of the church, the waters of the great sea, the bait of fishing nets, the milk from the breasts of the church, the rays of the blazing sun, etc.

For all the states of the church, the saints have often offered Christ's blood at his command: for nuns, priests, believers, non-believers, sinners, and heretics. On May 6, 1585, Christ urged her: "Come, my bride, I want the time of rebirth and renewal of the entire body of the holy church to come through my blood by offering me all creatures."
