Three Kings

Therefore
… we are looking for that child
A land without a child is desolate
… we are looking for the stable
not the chambers of palaces
with scaly gold
not the bedrooms
with the scents of the Orient
(Wandering within them
and crying
Herod Sorrow)
… we are looking for the shepherds
let them tell us
how to reach
the Fire
Our warmth is cooling
  cold hands offered
  lifeless kisses
  extinguished hearths of hearts
with a bit of incense smoke
  frosted by darkness
… we are looking for that Mother
that Mother with the Child

She sang to her son, the Mother
and the song
smelled bitter
with myrrh
