I tried to stay close to God, turning to Him as a refuge.

Since experiencing the bombing in our street during the war, I have often tried to be close to God and ran to Him like to a shelter, as one mass antiphon says. I worked in construction. The Germans pulled young technicians from various departments into production. It was about life... if a component was struck a little too hard with a hammer, a person faced sabotage charges. I did this for a quarter of a year and came to the conclusion that if the English didn't come and destroy Škodovka, it would be the end for me. Spies monitored the production and reported it. Every day the Gestapo came and took someone away. I only had a day shift, but production continued at night as well. One morning, I had such an inner urging: "Today go to the afternoon shift!" So I went - and at ten o'clock in the morning, the English leveled the gun factory to a pile of bricks...
