The second consequence of the existential conception of religion is the removal of the gap between the sacred and the secular realm. If religion is a state captured by the ultimate concern, this state cannot be confined to a particular area. The unconditional nature of this concern includes an appeal to every aspect of our lives, in every space and at every time. The universe is the sanctuary of God. Every workday is the Lord's day, every dinner is the Lord's supper, every job is the fulfillment of the task assigned by God, and every joy is a joy in God. The ultimate concern is present in all preliminary concerns, thus sanctifying them. Essentially, there is no difference between the religious and the secular realms. Rather, they mutually contain each other.
