At every moment of life, only a continually fuller and broader surrender can save you. One no longer gets angry with oneself, nor does one try to arm oneself against anything; one opens the windows and doors of one's soul so that He can come whenever He wants and however He wants. This surrender, which seems easy, is actually difficult: and that is the reason for all our suffering. However, what is important is that we approach it daily. When we can say without any reservations: “My Lord and my God, take me away from myself and give all of me to You” (Nicholas of Flüe), we will find ourselves on the other bank; all purification will be behind us.
