This is the Christian life: it often unfolds in mist, sometimes in the gusts of darkness or in flashes of sunlight. But the furrow of love that God plows in the soul continues to deepen: we would be increasingly unable to live without faith in the true homeland, which gives invaluable value to earthly things – even the most wretched. Saint Paul speaks of "redeeming the time" (1). And it is love that transforms thorns into roses.
(1) This refers to the passage Eph 5:16 – "make the best use of time" – which the Latin Vulgate translates as redeeming.
