There is suffering so great that it leaves us speechless. We feel a certain kind of shame before it, that we ourselves are safe. We would like to forget everything that is not in line with the misery we witness, we would like to hide in the shadow of silent prayer, to surround the beings who suffer with that one Presence, which is never distant.
