If the king of Israel, let him come down from the cross... If this generation still seeks a sign, no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah: not a sign of descent, but a sign of resurrection. He who did not come down from the cross has risen from the closed tomb. So we, who follow our head, must not cease to carry our cross, let us persevere in what he persevered, until the Spirit tells us to rest from our labors. Let us not listen to anyone, brothers, neither flesh nor blood, nor any spirit that persuades us to come down from the cross. Let us endure on the cross, die on the cross, whether others take us down or not, not our own easing.
