All sacred things... so empty, so cold, so unwanted.

I am reading the book The Nun about Sister Margaret Mary Alacoque and the Most Sacred Heart. Her love for Jesus has awakened in me such a painful desire to love Him as she loved Him. How cold, how empty, how painful is my heart. Holy Communion, the Holy Mass, all holy things of the spiritual life – Christ’s life within me – are all so empty, so cold, so unwanted. The physical situation of my poor abandoned ones on the streets, who are unwanted, unloved, and undesired, is the true reflection of my spiritual life, my love for Jesus, and yet in this terrible pain, I have never desired for it to be any different. Moreover, I want it to be so, as long as He wants it.
