Sir, you have been sick with love for me all this time.

Lord, you have been sick with love for me all the time,
this you have achieved on yourself:
You have inscribed me
in the book of divinity,
you have painted me into your pure humanity,
you have engraved me into the holy wound of your heart,
so that you would never forget me,
and into your hands,
to share your grace with me,
and into your feet,
so that you would never part from me.

(Mechtild of Magdeburg /1207–1282/)
