I could not write to you about Jesus; I would have to be passionate in love for him, and I am utterly incapable. There remains only what I once experienced and will never forget, namely, that He loves us, even when we forget that we should love Him, and our love is merely a mockery. When we are dying, then in response to our faithlessness will resound the cry of Saint Paul: “He loved me and gave Himself for me!”
