Too often, we understand hope too individualistically, merely as our personal salvation. However, hope is primarily based on God's great acts in history, on actions that concern all of creation. It is the expectation of the Parousia, the Return of the Lord, who will come to complete history. It relates to the fate of all humanity. What we await is the salvation of the world. In reality, hope hopes for the salvation of all people – and it hopes for my salvation only to the extent that I belong among them.
