Small children do not marvel at the mystery of Christianity. The world is woven from miracles for them. That God came to the manger to save us, what difficulty is there in that? When the time comes to make them feel what the mystery is, and that the Incarnation is one of them, we will first ask them: Is God happy? And then right after: Was Jesus on the cross God? Was He therefore happy? At that moment, in their own way, they will experience the beneficial and decisive shock of the mystery. And we will entrust to them that this mystery does not dissipate even in adults.
(Cardinal Charles Journet /1891–1975/, The Seven Words of Christ on the Cross)
