Who are you, Light, that fills me
and illuminates the darkness of my heart?
You lead me like a mother's hand,
and if you were to abandon me,
I could not take another step.
You are the space that envelops my being
and conceals it within yourself.
You are closer to me than I am to myself,
more intimate than my deepest soul,
and yet ungraspable and incomprehensible,
you penetrate every name:
Holy Spirit – eternal Love!
(Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, excerpt from the Pentecost novena 1937)
