Aside from Christianity, it may be noble and good for a person to suffer in solitude to spare their friends the sight of suffering. But in Christianity, we would actually be depriving our neighbor of something because suffering is fruitful, and suffering borne together is grace. For the Mother and for the Son, it is a gift if they are allowed to suffer together.
