Yes, Christ is being crucified again in the mothers who mourn the unjust death of their husbands and sons. He is crucified in the refugees who flee with children in their arms from bombs. He is crucified in the elderly who are left to die alone, in the young deprived of a future, in the soldiers sent to kill their brothers. There, today, Christ is being crucified.
With God, we can always return to life. So, take courage, let us move towards Easter in his forgiveness. Christ continually intercedes for us with the Father and, seeing our violent and wounded world, tirelessly repeats: “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” And now let us silently express the same in our hearts. “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.”
(Pope Francis, homily on Palm Sunday 2022)
