What am I actually asking for, my God?

Oh, my God and my infinite Wisdom, without measure and without limit, above all angelic and human knowledge! Oh, Love, that loves me more than I can love and perceive myself! Why do I want, Lord, to desire something more than what You want to give me? Why do I want to tire myself by asking You for something that my desire commands, when all that my mind is capable of assembling and what my desire is capable of longing for, You have already penetrated to the end, and I myself do not know what truly benefits me? For in what my soul thinks it will find gain, there will actually be my loss. For when I ask You to free me from some suffering, and yet in it lies the meaning of my mortification, what am I really asking for, my God?

But no, my God, no! No more trust in anything I could want for myself. You ask of me what You would like, for that is what I want too; all my good lies in pleasing You. If You, my God, were to satisfy me by fulfilling all that my desire asks, it is clear that I would be lost.
