There is nothing more detrimental than conflicting desires for multiple options at once.

In the end, everything depends on being able to manage without relying on the finished worldly categories. “Having a solid position” sounds like a phrase expressing the ideal of our fathers and mothers. Who can blame them for that? More seriously, I'm not sure of my own strength, perhaps even of my determination. You must not forget that my religious life has been interrupted and that for me it is something entirely different than for you. I am often troubled by the feeling that I have not yet adhered to the wood with all parts of my body, that I have not yet surrendered without reservation. There is nothing more destructive than looking towards multiple options at once. – But I am firmly determined not to be discouraged and thrown off center, for I know that there is no salvation elsewhere.
