My Lord! It seems as if I have forgotten Your greatness and mercy and that You came into the world for sinners and redeemed us at a great price, paying for our false satisfactions by enduring such cruel suffering and scourging. You healed my blindness by allowing Your divine eyes to be covered, and my pride with such a cruel crown of thorns.
(Teresa of Jesus, The Cry of the Soul to God, 3,3)
