Be vigilant about your inner movements, especially those relating to various privileges. May God relieve us, for His suffering, from clinging to expressions like: “I am older,” “I have more years,” “I have worked more,” “she is treated better than I am.” Anyone who wants to be perfect must completely avoid expressions like: “I was right,” “I was wronged,” “I didn't deserve to be treated that way.”
Cast away such thoughts as soon as they cross your mind, for dwelling on them, or even speaking of them, is a plague, a cause of great evil. Earnestly pray to the Lord to heal you.
(Teresa of Jesus, The Way to Perfection XII,4; XIII,1)
