At the end of life, waves of despair will come…

“This is your mother.” It is you, Jesus, who gives her to me as Mother. … It is you, Jesus, who entrusts her to me. Grant that I may listen to your voice. Make it so that I penetrate your intention. When the onslaughts of despair come at the end of life, grant that I suddenly feel how your Mother, who has become mine, gives me a sign at your Cross, so that I may die.

(Cardinal Charles Journet /1891–1975/, The Seven Words of Christ on the Cross)
