Only love is allowed to kiss.
The heart truly loves only when it desires what it loves; one cannot love without longing; if it loves the cross, it longs for the cross; if it loves the Savior, it longs for Him where He is, and as He is. Whoever believes must go; whoever loves longs to go. Love cannot choose and does not choose; it does not delay and it hastens. (…)
The view of Christ crucified is not only one of pity but also of joy. We see on Him a heart wide pierced, so that our own hearts could hide in it; we see the nails in His hands and feet, by which He allowed Himself to be nailed, so that He might be more firmly bound to the cross, to which He invites us and on which He accepts us. This cross with the body of the Crucified is displayed for kissing through the most sacred five wounds. Only love may kiss.
